Discover more about Zygi Marina

Zygi Marina, located on the southern coast of Cyprus, is a picturesque harbor that encapsulates the essence of the island's coastal charm. Situated in the small village of Zygi, roughly equidistant between Larnaca and Limassol, this marina offers a unique blend of traditional Cypriot life and modern marine facilities. The village itself is steeped in history, having evolved from a commercial center for carob exportation to a thriving fishing community. Historically, Zygi served as a vital point for the carob trade, with large quantities of carobs gathered from across Cyprus, stored in warehouses, and then shipped from its pier. These carobs, once the island's primary source of income, were known as the "black gold of Cyprus". Today, remnants of this era can still be seen in the village's architecture, with old stone storehouses dotting the landscape. The shift towards fishing began in earnest following the Turkish invasion of 1974, when refugees from the north settled in Zygi, bringing with them new skills and traditions that enriched the local culture. Zygi Marina is now the heart of the village, bustling with activity as local fishermen bring in their daily catch. The marina is well-equipped to accommodate a variety of vessels, offering 350 berths suitable for boats up to 30 meters in length. Each berth is fully serviced with access to water, electricity, and Wi-Fi, ensuring a comfortable stay for sailors. Security is available 24/7, providing peace of mind for boat owners. One of the main draws of Zygi Marina is its vibrant culinary scene, particularly its seafood restaurants. These taverns, many located right next to the marina, serve freshly caught fish prepared in traditional Cypriot style. Visitors can savor a variety of dishes, from grilled octopus to sea bass, all while enjoying panoramic views of the Mediterranean Sea. The marina's restaurants have become renowned throughout Cyprus, attracting both locals and tourists seeking an authentic seafood experience. Beyond its culinary offerings, Zygi Marina provides a range of activities for visitors. Boat rentals and fishing excursions are readily available, allowing tourists to immerse themselves in the maritime culture of the region. Whether you're an experienced sailor or a novice, the marina caters to all skill levels, offering opportunities for exploration and adventure on the open waters. The calm waters and well-protected harbor ensure a safe and enjoyable docking experience. The area surrounding Zygi Marina is also rich in natural beauty and cultural attractions. The nearby Troodos Mountains offer stunning views and diverse biodiversity, while the cities of Limassol and Larnaca boast archaeological sites, museums, and beautiful beaches. Visitors can explore the Neolithic settlement of Choirokoitia, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, or relax on the sandy shores of Governor's Beach. The village of Zygi itself is a charming place to wander, with its traditional architecture and friendly locals. Zygi Marina is easily accessible by road, located just off the A1 motorway that connects Nicosia, Limassol, and Larnaca. The closest airport is Larnaca International Airport, approximately 40 kilometers away. Public transportation options are also available, with buses running regularly from Larnaca and Limassol to Zygi. Parking is available near the marina, making it convenient for those arriving by car. Despite its growing popularity, Zygi Marina has managed to retain its authentic Cypriot character. The marina is a place where visitors can experience the beauty and charm of rural Cyprus, away from the hustle and bustle of the larger cities. Whether you're watching fishermen unload their catch, sampling fresh seafood at a waterfront restaurant, or simply enjoying the stunning scenery, Zygi Marina is sure to leave you with lasting memories. In recent years, Zygi Marina has also become a venue for various events and festivals, adding to its appeal as a tourist destination.
