The Kourion Ancient Amphitheater, perched dramatically on the Cypriot coast near Episkopi, is a remarkably preserved Greco-Roman theater dating back to the 2nd century BC. Originally built by the Greeks and later expanded by the Romans, it could seat up to 3,500 spectators. Today, it stands as a testament to Cyprus's rich history, offering stunning views of the Mediterranean Sea and hosting cultural events, especially during the summer. Visitors can explore the well-preserved stone seating, imagine the ancient performances, and wander through the surrounding Kourion Archaeological Site, which includes villas with intricate mosaics, ancient baths, and the Sanctuary of Apollo Hylates. Public Transport
From Limassol, take bus number 16 from the Leontiou EMEL Bus Station towards Agios Ermogenis (Episkopi). The journey takes approximately 55 minutes. The bus fare is approximately €1.50. Alight at the Agios Ermogenis bus stop. From there, it's about a 20-minute walk uphill to the Kourion Archaeological Site entrance. Follow the road, and the amphitheater will be on your left within the site.
Driving
From Limassol, head west on the A6 motorway towards Paphos. Take the exit marked 'Episkopi / Krasohoria (Wine villages) / Kantou / Kourion Archaeological Site'. Turn left onto Gregori Afxentiou Street and then left again at the first junction. Follow the signs to the Kourion Archaeological Site. There is a free parking lot available next to the visitor center. Parking is free.
Taxi/Ride-Share
A taxi or ride-share from Limassol to the Kourion Ancient Amphitheater will take approximately 30 minutes, depending on traffic. Expect to pay around €25-€35 for the trip. The driver can drop you off directly at the entrance to the Kourion Archaeological Site.
