Perched at an altitude of 1,300 meters on the southern slopes of the Troodos Mountains, the monastery provides a peaceful retreat amidst pine forests and picturesque landscapes. According to local tradition, the monastery was established shortly after the iconoclastic era, around 990 AD. A hermit, fleeing the iconoclasm, is said to have brought a sacred icon of the Virgin Mary from Asia Minor to this location. The monastery's main church and surrounding buildings date back to the 18th to 20th centuries, with the current church built in 1731. The monastery's most prized possession is a silver-gilt icon of the Virgin Mary, believed to grant hope and fertility to childless couples. Pilgrims and visitors come to pray before the icon, seeking blessings and miracles. A large religious fair is held annually on August 15th, the day of the Dormition of Panagia, attracting many. While the monastery serves as a retreat for resident monks and is often closed to visitors, the church is generally open to the public. Visitors should dress modestly and respect the strict silence of the convent. The monastery offers parking and wheelchair accessibility.
