Ayia Thekla Beach: A Tranquil Coastal Escape

Ayia Thekla Beach, situated approximately 6 km west of Ayia Napa and adjacent to Sotira, is a charming coastal haven named after the quaint Ayia Thekla Church. This 300-meter stretch of golden sand is part of the Natura 2000 network, recognized as a Special Protected Area. The beach is known for its shallow, crystal-clear waters, making it particularly safe and enjoyable for families with children. The beach features a small islet just a short distance from the shore, which acts as a natural breakwater and a fun spot for bathers to relax. Rocky formations to the east and west of the sandy bay provide excellent opportunities for snorkeling. Amenities include sunbeds, umbrellas, toilets, changing rooms, and a café-bar serving snacks and refreshments. Lifeguards are on duty during certain months, and a special wheelchair is available for disabled individuals to access the sea. Beyond the beach itself, visitors can explore the catacomb of Agia Thekla, located next to the church, or take a scenic walk along the coastal path leading to the fishing harbor of Potamos tou Liopetriou. The area is also popular for kite surfing, paragliding, jogging, and walking, especially during spring when wildflowers bloom along the shore.
