    Discover more about NiMAC

The Nicosia Municipal Arts Centre (NiMAC), associated with the Pierides Foundation, stands as a cornerstone of contemporary art in Cyprus. Located in the meticulously renovated Old Powerhouse in Nicosia's historical center, NiMAC is the oldest and largest contemporary art center on the island, inaugurated on January 14, 1994. The building's architectural restoration, which earned the Europa Nostra Award in 1994, transformed it into a captivating space where art and history converge. Over the past three decades, NiMAC has curated and hosted over a hundred exhibitions of modern and contemporary art, featuring renowned artists from Cyprus and across the globe. These exhibitions often result from collaborations with museums, art centers, and cultural institutions throughout Europe and beyond, fostering a vibrant exchange of ideas and artistic expression. NiMAC's mission extends beyond exhibitions, aiming to cultivate communication and collaboration between Cyprus and other nations, particularly within Europe. It strives to establish strong partnerships between artists and cultural managers, introduce new trends and concepts in art and culture to the public, and provide Cypriot artists with opportunities for collaboration with international peers. NiMAC's commitment to education is evident through its diverse pedagogical activities. In addition to educational programs tailored to specific exhibitions, the Educational Centre for Children, established in 2008 within the Old Powerhouse complex, offers specialized courses and workshops in contemporary art, engraving, cinema, and new media. NiMAC also hosts international conferences, round table discussions, screenings, lectures, and presentations featuring art professionals from Cyprus and abroad, further enriching the cultural landscape. Since 2012, NiMAC has operated a Residency Programme for artists, scholars, and cultural managers. The NiMAC complex also houses the Demetrios Z. Pierides History of Art Library, boasting an extensive collection of books and rare art publications.
