From the Kato Paphos Main Bus Station, walk east along the coastal road for approximately 5 minutes. The castle is located at the end of the harbor promenade, easily visible. Look for signs directing you towards the Paphos Archaeological Park and harbor; the castle is adjacent to the park's entrance.
Public Transport

Arriving by bus from other parts of Paphos, take any bus that stops at the Kato Paphos Main Bus Station (Harbour Station). Bus routes 610, 611, and 615 are common routes. From the bus station, it's a short 5-minute walk to the castle. A single bus fare within Paphos is typically €2.

If driving, follow signs to Paphos Harbour. Ample free parking is available near the harbor, though it can be crowded during peak season. Arrive early to secure a spot. Located at the western end of Paphos Harbour, this medieval fortress has witnessed the rise and fall of empires, serving various roles from a defensive stronghold to a cultural venue.The castle's origins trace back to the Byzantine era when it was constructed to protect the harbor from potential invasions. However, a devastating earthquake in 1222 AD led to its destruction. In the mid-13th century, during the Frankish Lusignan rule, the castle was rebuilt, comprising two towers connected by a defensive wall to control the port's gateway and safeguard the city of Paphos. The Genoese invasion in 1373 highlighted the castle's strategic importance.Over the centuries, the castle underwent several modifications by various conquerors and colonizers. The Venetians, fearing an Ottoman invasion, dismantled parts of the fortress in the 16th century. However, the Ottomans rebuilt it in 1592, incorporating the remaining Frankish tower and Venetian additions, resulting in the structure that stands today. During Ottoman rule, the castle served as both a military garrison and a prison.With the arrival of the British in 1878, the castle's military role ceased, and it was repurposed as a salt depot until 1935 when it was declared an ancient monument.
