Artemis Trail: A Walk Around the Roof of Cyprus

The Artemis Trail is a captivating 7-kilometer circular route that encircles the summit of Mount Olympus (also known as Chionistra), the highest peak in Cyprus. At an elevation of 1,850 meters, the trail offers breathtaking panoramic views stretching across the island, including the districts of Limassol, Paphos, and Nicosia. The trail is known for its easy to moderate difficulty, making it accessible to hikers of various fitness levels. The path is well-maintained and marked, guiding you through diverse landscapes, including black pine forests, rocky terrains, and open areas with stunning vistas. Along the way, you can discover unique Cypriot plant species and observe the island's geological features, such as dunite, harzburgite and pyroxenite rocks. Two ancient black pine trees, estimated to be over 500 years old, stand as silent witnesses to the trail's rich history. Historically, the trail also features remnants of fortifications constructed by Venetian generals during the final years of their occupation in 1571 AD. The Troodos National Forest Park Environmental Information Centre is located just 2.2 kilometers away, providing additional insights into the area's natural and cultural significance. The trail is part of the Troodos National Forest Park, a NATURA 2000 area, ensuring the preservation of its unique biodiversity.
