Discover more about Kalidonia Waterfall

The Kalidonia Waterfall, also known as Caledonia Waterfalls, is a captivating natural attraction located in the Troodos Mountains, approximately 2 km north of Pano Platres village in Cyprus. The waterfall's name originates from a group of Scottish visitors who, in 1878, were reminded of their homeland and named it after Caledonia, the ancient Latin name for Scotland. The waterfall is one of the highest on the island, with water cascading down a height of 12 meters. The surrounding area is characterized by a dense, verdant forest, with diverse flora such as pine trees and endemic golden oak. The Kryos Potamos river, one of the few rivers in Cyprus with year-round flowing water, enhances the trail's appeal. Visitors can reach the waterfall via two primary routes: a nature trail starting near Troodos Square or a shorter path from the Psilo Dendro picnic site. The main trail is approximately 3 kilometers long and is considered a moderately challenging hike. It winds through the forest, offering picturesque views and river crossings. The shorter route from Psilo Dendro is about 1 kilometer and provides easier access to the waterfall. The Kalidonia Waterfall is a popular destination throughout the year, with the best time to visit being in the spring when the flora is lush and the water flow is abundant. However, the trail can be enjoyed in the summer due to the shaded path and cooler mountain temperatures. In winter, the area can be snowy, requiring appropriate footwear.
