Discover more about Trooditissa Monastery

Trooditissa Monastery, perched at an altitude of 1,300 meters in the Troodos Mountains, offers a serene escape and a glimpse into Cyprus's rich religious history. The monastery was founded around 990 AD, emerging after the iconoclastic era, a period when many religious figures sought refuge in Cyprus. While the original buildings from the Middle Byzantine period are no longer standing, the present church was constructed in 1731. The monastery's architecture showcases a blend of Byzantine and later influences. Inside, visitors can admire valuable icons, including a silver-gilt-covered icon of the Virgin Mary brought from Asia Minor, which is believed to have miraculous properties, especially for couples desiring children. The monastery holds a religious fair every year on August 15th. While the monastery serves as a retreat for monks and is often closed to visitors, the church is generally open, offering a space for prayer and contemplation. The surrounding landscape of pine forests adds to the tranquil atmosphere, inviting quiet reflection.
