Discover more about Molos

Molos, officially known as the Limassol Multifunctional Seaside Park, is a testament to Limassol's transformation into a modern, vibrant city. This expansive park and promenade, reclaimed from the sea, has become a vital hotspot and a symbol of Limassol, drawing locals and tourists alike to its scenic shores. During Ottoman rule, the area now occupied by Molos was a stark contrast to its present state. A dense line of houses, warehouses, and offices restricted public access to the seafront, a common practice during that era. Following the Cyprus Convention of 1878, when administrative power was ceded to the British, the seafront began its transformation. The British governor ordered the demolition of the houses facing the sea and initiated the construction of the first major pier. In 1908, Mayor Christodoulos Sozos spearheaded further development, including the introduction of electric lighting to the seafront. The redevelopment of the Molos area, completed in 2015 at a cost of €12,000,000, was co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund. This ambitious project aimed to restore Limassol's identity as a seaside town, providing residents and visitors with a multifunctional space for recreation, relaxation, and cultural engagement. Today, Molos Promenade stretches along the coastline from the Old Port to the Limassol Zoo, offering breathtaking views of the Mediterranean Sea. The promenade is meticulously landscaped with palm trees, parks, seating areas, and vibrant flowerbeds, creating a serene and inviting atmosphere. Contemporary sculptures by Cypriot, Greek, and international artists adorn the park, adding an artistic dimension to the natural beauty. The park features several distinct zones, each catering to different interests and activities. Playgrounds equipped with modern, safe equipment provide ample space for children to play and explore. Fitness enthusiasts can take advantage of the jogging and cycling paths. Molos is not just a park; it's a living, breathing space that reflects the spirit of Limassol. It's a place where families gather, friends connect, and visitors experience the beauty and culture of Cyprus. Whether you're taking a leisurely stroll, riding a bike, or simply sitting on a bench watching the waves, Molos Promenade promises an unforgettable experience.
