Discover more about The Cyprus Wine Museum

The Cyprus Wine Museum, nestled in the heart of Erimi village, offers a captivating journey through the island's remarkable 5500-year winemaking heritage. Housed in a beautifully restored, 150-year-old stone building that once served as an inn for wine merchants, the museum provides a tangible connection to the past. The museum's exhibits showcase the evolution of winemaking in Cyprus, from ancient practices to modern methods. Visitors can admire ancient amphorae and canisters used for storing and transporting wine, medieval drinking vessels, and historical documents that illuminate the social and economic importance of wine throughout the centuries. The displays also highlight the significance of the vine, grape, and wine in Cypriot art and culture, demonstrating its integral role in the island's identity. One of the museum's highlights is the "St Hilarion Hall," the wine-tasting room where visitors can sample a variety of Cypriot wines, including the renowned Commandaria, a sweet dessert wine with a history dating back to ancient times. The museum also hosts lectures, wine-tasting sessions, performances, and concerts throughout the year, enhancing its appeal as a cultural and entertainment venue. The museum displays indigenous grape varieties of Cyprus, as well as the history of Commandaria, one of the oldest wines still produced in the world. Originally, the building was an inn, where wine merchants from the wine villages of Lemesos and Paphos used to meet. After the Museum inauguration, evidence came to light that Erimi, the village where the museum stands, is the starting point of the cultivation of grapes and production of wine in Europe with history more that 5500 years.
