Discover more about Chantara Waterfall

Chantara Waterfall, also known as Hantara Waterfall, is a captivating natural attraction located north of Foini village in the Troodos Mountains. The name 'Chantara' comes from the Greek word 'anatra,' meaning 'water noise,' perfectly capturing the soothing sounds of the cascading water. The waterfall is formed by the Chantara stream and tumbles down from a height of eight meters (approximately 26 feet), creating a picturesque scene. The waterfall's distinctive feature is its unique rock formation, where the water stream splits, creating two separate cascades that flow down either side of a large rock. This unusual sight, combined with the surrounding verdant landscape, makes Chantara Waterfall a truly special place. The area is teeming with diverse flora, including plane trees, ivy, pine trees, golden oaks, sumac, strawberry trees, cistus, sage, and lavender, filling the air with wonderful scents. Visitors can immerse themselves in the tranquility of nature, relax by the small pond at the base of the falls, and even dip their feet in the cool water. The more adventurous can explore the surrounding area through a network of hiking trails that cater to both novice and experienced hikers. These trails offer awe-inspiring views of the surrounding countryside and a chance to fully immerse yourself in the beauty of Cyprus's natural landscape. Next to Chantara Waterfall are the remains of an old watermill that operated until the beginning of the 20th century, adding a touch of history to the site. You can also see some carved steps on a rock to the right of the waterfall, traces of the area's past.
