Discover more about Cyprus Railways Museum

The Cyprus Railways Museum, nestled in the village of Evrychou, is a testament to a bygone era when trains connected communities across the island. The Cyprus Government Railway (CGR) operated from 1905 to 1951, playing a vital role in transporting goods, passengers, and mail. The 122km narrow-gauge system linked Famagusta with Evrychou, serving the harbor and facilitating the transport of mining goods and timber. The museum is located in the beautifully restored Evrychou train station, which was the western terminus of the CGR. Inside, visitors can explore original documents, drawings, photographs, and objects related to the railway. Scale models of locomotives, rolling stock, and stations offer a glimpse into the railway's infrastructure. Outside, part of the original railway rails and two wagons are displayed. The CGR was significant during the British occupation, facilitating the transport of British soldiers and connecting key areas. Despite its importance, the railway ceased operations in 1951. The Evrychou station has been transformed into a museum, preserving the history and offering visitors an educational experience. The museum is driven by the Department of Antiquities.
