Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car from any location within Czech Forest, first ensure you are on the main roads leading towards the town of Domažlice. Take the E53 highway heading northwest. Continue on this road for about 30 kilometers until you reach the town of Domažlice. From Domažlice, follow signs for the Český les Protected Landscape Area, which will guide you onto local roads. The final stretch will take you through smaller roads leading directly into the protected area. There are no tolls on this route.

• Public Transportation

  To reach Český les by public transport, you can take a train from the nearest major city, Plzeň (Pilsen). Board a train heading towards Domažlice, which runs frequently. The journey takes approximately 1 hour. Upon arrival in Domažlice, transfer to a local bus that services the Český les area. Make sure to check the local bus schedule ahead of time, as services may be limited. The bus ride will take around 30 minutes and costs approximately 30 CZK. Be sure to notify the driver of your stop, as some routes may not announce stops.

• Bicycle

  For an adventurous option, you can rent a bicycle in Domažlice and cycle to the Český les Protected Landscape Area. From Domažlice, follow the local biking trails that lead towards the protected area. The ride covers about 12 kilometers and takes approximately 45 minutes. Ensure you have a proper map or GPS, as some trails may be less marked. Renting a bicycle typically costs around 200 CZK for a day.

• Walking

  If you are in close proximity to the Český les Protected Landscape Area, consider walking. There are marked trails leading into the area from various points, particularly from nearby villages such as Kdyně. Ensure you have appropriate hiking gear and a map, as some paths can be rugged. Walking from Kdyně to the protected area takes about 1.5 to 2 hours, covering roughly 6 kilometers.
