Overview
Park Rudolfova alej, located in Olomouc, is a charming green space offering a tranquil retreat for visitors. Established in 1820 by Archbishop Rudolf Jan Habsburg, it holds the distinction of being the city's first park. Originally part of the city's fortifications, the area was transformed into a park, laying the foundation for today's Smetanovy sady.During the Austro-Prussian War, the original alley was destroyed to ensure clear visibility from the fortress walls. However, it was restored in 1866 and officially reopened in the presence of Emperor Franz Joseph I. The park attained its current form in 1919, with landscaping by Emanuel Černý.Today, Park Rudolfova alej is known for its well-maintained lawns, diverse flora, and peaceful atmosphere. Visitors can explore winding paths, relax on benches, and appreciate the park's sculptures. The park also provides refuge for various animal species, including bats, beetles and birds. The park is undergoing ongoing revitalization efforts, ensuring its preservation for future generations.
