Discover more about Petrin Tower

The Petřín Lookout Tower, also known as Petřínská rozhledna, is a steel-framework tower located on Petřín Hill in Prague. Constructed in 1891 for the Jubilee Exhibition, it was inspired by the Eiffel Tower in Paris and stands as a prominent landmark in the city. The tower is approximately five times smaller than the Eiffel Tower. At 63.5 meters (208 feet) tall, the tower offers stunning views of Prague and its surroundings. On clear days, visitors can even see Sněžka, the Czech Republic's highest peak, which is about 93 miles away. The tower has 299 steps leading to the observation deck. An elevator is available for those who prefer not to climb the stairs. Originally, the Petřín Tower was used as both an observation tower and a radio and television transmission tower. During World War II, the Germans used the tower to jam radio signals from the Czech resistance. After the war, it was restored and reopened to the public. The tower was closed to the public from 1979 to 1992 and was mainly used as a television transmission tower. In 1999-2002, the tower was completely reconstructed, and a new elevator for disabled and elderly people was installed. Today, the Petřín Lookout Tower is a major tourist attraction in Prague, drawing thousands of visitors each year. Along with the tower, Petřín Hill offers other attractions, including the Mirror Maze, Štefánik Observatory, and landscaped gardens.
