Discover more about Rokoko Theatre

Located in the basement of the Rokoko Palace on Wenceslas Square, the Rokoko Theatre is a significant cultural institution in Prague with a captivating history. The theatre was built along with the palace in 1915, as part of a complex of multi-purpose houses designed with elements of Geometric Modernism and Cubism. Initially, the space functioned as a cabaret, hosting chansons, sketches, and parody scenes. In 1923, it was converted into a theatre, becoming home to the Komedia Theatre. Over the years, the Rokoko has seen various transformations, including a focus on solo actors and musical recitals in the 1970s. Today, as one of the Prague City Theatres, the Rokoko continues to host intimate productions of contemporary playwrights, aiming to revive its cabaret roots. The theatre provides a very direct contact between the stage and the auditorium, seating around 200 spectators. A renovation project aimed to unify the visual artistry of the space, adding new seating with artificial leather, brick red Venetian stuccos, and renewed ceiling lamps. A statue of actor Václav Voska was installed in the foyer, and a mosaic was renovated in the entry hall.
