Discover more about South Gardens of Prague Castle

The South Gardens of Prague Castle offer a tranquil escape with breathtaking views of Prague. Established in the 16th century, the gardens have been redesigned and renovated throughout history, most recently in 2012, to restore their 1920s appearance. Slovenian architect Josip Plečnik renovated the gardens for the first Czechoslovak president, T. G. Masaryk. The South Gardens consist of three smaller gardens: the Paradise Garden, the Garden on the Ramparts, and the Hartig Garden. The Paradise Garden features a large fountain and exotic plants. The Garden on the Ramparts, located on a 14th-century fortification bastion, provides beautiful city views. The Hartig Garden, the smallest of the three, features a Music Pavilion, though it is currently closed to the public. Visitors can explore the gardens from April to October and enjoy the panoramic views of St. Vitus Cathedral, the Old Town, and the Vltava River. The gardens offer a blend of manicured elegance and natural greenery, providing a serene atmosphere for relaxation and reflection. The South Gardens are nearly 500 meters long, making it possible to take a circular tour around Prague Castle during the summer tourist season.
