Discover more about Povydří

Povydří, often called the most beautiful place in Šumava, is a nature trail that follows the Vydra river through a deep, romantic valley. The river's course is characterized by a wild canyon filled with massive granite boulders, remnants of the region's glacial past. These boulders create a series of rapids and small waterfalls as the water carves its path. The water has a distinctive rusty color due to streams flowing from nearby peat bogs. The Povydří nature trail stretches approximately 7 km between Antýgl and Čeňkova Pila. The path is primarily for pedestrians, offering a serene experience without bicycle traffic. Along the way, you'll find seven stops with information boards detailing the area's natural history and the lives of the people who have lived there. Notable points along the trail include Turner's cottage, a great place to stop for refreshments and even see an exhibit on local otters. The trail also passes by Klostermann Bridge, offering views of the river. Hikers can also see the remains of Hálkova chata, a pre-war Czech tourist lodge. The trail is considered one of the most visited spots in Šumava.
