Korunní Pevnůstka, or Crown Fortress, is a significant historical site in Olomouc, Czech Republic, representing a remarkably intact component of the city's extensive bastion fortifications. Construction of the fortress began in 1754, and it was completed in 1756. The fortress consists of a five-sided bastion and two half-bastions, connected by curtain walls, featuring an entrance gate. Historically, the fortress served as a special entrance to the city and included gardens and an avenue leading to the town center. After the fortress was abolished in Olomouc, the Crown Fortress was used by the army, but it was also open to city residents as an outdoor place for drying laundry. It was closed to the public in 1945 and used as special storage premises by the army. In 1967, part of it became integrated into the Botanical Garden and Rose Garden. The army returned it to the city at the end of the 20th century. Since 2008, the Museum of Olomouc Fortress has managed the complex. Today, visitors can explore the grounds and admire the Baroque gunpowder magazine and the remains of an Empire-style guardhouse. The fortress also hosts the interactive science museum Pevnost Poznání (Fortress of Discovery) and the Museum of Olomouc Fortress, which features exhibits on the fortress's history, military artifacts, and a unique model of Olomouc as a fortress in the 18th century. The site hosts various cultural events, concerts, and festivals, making it a vibrant hub for locals and tourists alike.
