Discover more about Mlýnský potok

The Mlýnský Potok, or Mill Stream, is a right branch of the Morava River that has shaped Olomouc for centuries. Diverging from the main river at Hynkov, it flows for over 36.5 km before rejoining the Morava in Olomouc, making it the longest man-made waterway in the Olomouc district. Historically, the stream powered numerous water mills, including the Svatojakubský (St. James's) mill, documented as early as the 13th century. It also played a crucial role in the city's fortifications. In the 20th century, its course was straightened in some areas, but efforts to improve water quality have led to the return of native fish species. Today, the Mlýnský Potok provides a picturesque setting for recreation. Visitors can enjoy walking and biking trails along its banks, observing local wildlife, and appreciating the blend of history and nature. The Bezruč Park, located beside the stream, offers landscaped gardens with views of the city center.
