Discover more about Radniční věž

Rising 75 meters above Horní náměstí, the Radniční věž is an unmissable landmark in Olomouc. The tower's construction began in the 1420s, alongside the town hall, and was completed in 1443. Initially, it was about a third shorter than its current height, serving as a repository for the city archives. Between 1601 and 1607, the tower was expanded, gaining its present height and Renaissance-era features, including an arcade and a watchman's room. The tower also became home to the Olomouc Astronomical Clock, an ornate, socialist-realist reinvention of the original medieval clock. Visitors can ascend the tower for sweeping views of Olomouc, stretching as far as Svatý Kopeček on a clear day. The tower's history and the stories of the watchmen who once lived within its walls add to the experience. Note that access to the Town Hall Tower is in limited operation in 2025 due to construction work.
