The Statue of Saint Florian is located on Žerotínovo náměstí (Žerotín Square) near St. Michael's Church in Olomouc. This baroque sandstone sculpture, created by Jan Jiří Schauberger in 1728, stands as a tribute to Saint Florian, the patron saint of firefighters. The statue was commissioned following a significant fire that affected part of Olomouc in 1709. Saint Florian, known for being thrown into a river with a millstone around his neck for his faith, became the obvious choice as a protector against fire. The citizens of Olomouc ordered the statue in 1725, and it was completed three years later. The statue itself is 210 cm tall, standing on a base that is 84 cm high. Saint Florian is depicted in antique armor with a helmet, pointing with his right hand to a flying angel holding a jug of water and pouring it out. This symbolizes the saint extinguishing flames, a key aspect of his patronage. The statue has been a cultural monument since 1958. In 2015, the statue underwent a complete renovation to repair damage and stabilize its structure.
