Discover more about Borský park

Borský Park, located on the southern edge of Pilsen, is the city's largest park, offering a diverse landscape for recreation and relaxation. Its history dates back to 1914 when architect Leopold Batěk designed the park. Due to World War I, only part of the original plan was realized, including a promenade and surrounding avenues around a central meadow. In 1915, two linden trees were planted to commemorate important historical events. The Husova linden tree honored the 500th anniversary of Jan Hus's death, while the Mickiewiczova linden tree was planted by Polish refugees as a tribute to their refuge in Pilsen. These trees still stand in the park today, marked with commemorative stones. After World War I, the park was renamed the Park of Czech Legionaries. The city of Pilsen took over the park's administration in 1926, expanding it to over 23 hectares. Further expansion occurred in the 1930s with the planting of new trees on the southern side, stretching to the Pilsen-Železná Ruda railway line. Between May and September 1945, the park served as a camp and field hospital for General Patton's 3rd US Army. Archaeological excavations in May 2025 uncovered remains of the camp. Today, the former field hospital site is a sports complex. The park was renovated in 2005, with improvements to the central lawn and irrigation system. In 2008, Borský Park was awarded second place in the national Park of the Year competition. Visitors can enjoy sports activities, playgrounds, and views of Radyně Castle. The park also features the Ruka (Hand) statue, dedicated to Pilsen artists.
