Brewery Museum: A Journey Through Pilsen's Brewing History

The Brewery Museum in Pilsen is a unique cultural institution dedicated to preserving and showcasing the rich history of brewing in the region. Housed in an original 15th-century brewing house, the museum offers visitors an immersive experience into the world of beer production from the Middle Ages to modern times. The museum's exhibits span several floors, each thematically arranged to provide insight into the secrets of beer production, serving, and enjoying beer throughout history. Visitors can explore a late-Gothic malt house, examine historical equipment used in the malting process, and learn about traditional brewing methods. Highlights of the museum include the world's smallest beer mug, a giant mug from Siberia, and a recreated brewing laboratory. The museum also showcases a diverse collection of beer steins, bottles, and other brewing curiosities. Visitors can also delve into the history of Pilsen's pubs and brewing-related professions such as coopering and stagecoach driving. The museum is connected to Pilsen's Historical Underground, offering a chance to explore the city's extensive network of medieval passageways and cellars. A beer shop on site offers a variety of beers and related merchandise. The building itself has a rich history, surviving large-scale reconstructions of Pilsen in the 19th century and a planned demolition in the 1950s. It was saved by Jan Hejtmánek, who restored the medieval town walls to which the brewing house was connected.
