Krásný Dvůr Chateau, meaning 'Beautiful Courtyard,' offers a captivating glimpse into Czech aristocratic life. The chateau's history dates back to the 13th century, but it was during the 18th century, under the ownership of the Černín family, that it underwent its most significant transformation. Architect František Maxmilián Kaňka oversaw the conversion of the Renaissance villa into a Baroque masterpiece between 1720 and 1724. The chateau boasts 18 rooms and lobby galleries open to the public, showcasing valuable paintings by Czech and European artists, including works by Petr Brandl and Karel Škréta. Visitors can admire collections of porcelain, glass, earthenware, clocks, and furniture representing different periods of Czech and European craftsmanship. The chateau library is also a highlight, featuring original classicist-shaped stoves and other examples of historical craftsmanship. The surrounding English landscape park, nearly 250 acres, is a highlight. Established in the late 18th century, the park features romantic structures such as the Neo-Gothic Temple, Pan's Temple, and an obelisk mirroring the one in Rome's Piazza del Popolo. The park is home to over 100 species of trees, including the ancient Goethe's Oak, estimated to be over 1,000 years old. Visitors can explore ponds, canals and a French garden, creating a serene and picturesque experience.
