Discover more about Holts Landing State Park

Holts Landing State Park, a 203-acre gem on the Indian River Bay, provides a diverse range of recreational activities and natural beauty. The park's history dates back to pre-colonial times when Native Americans harvested seafood and hunted in the surrounding marshes. Later, European settlers farmed the land, and the Holt family maintained a farm and boat landing until 1957. In 1965, the land was transformed into a state park, opening to the public. Today, visitors can enjoy a variety of activities, including crabbing from the park's unique pier, the only one on Delaware's inland bay built specifically for this purpose. Fishing is also popular, with opportunities to catch sea trout, flounder, and bluefish. The 24-hour boat ramp provides access to the Indian River Bay for boating and water sports. For those who prefer land-based activities, Holts Landing offers the ADA-accessible Seahawk Trail, a 1.3-mile loop that meanders through salt marsh, maritime forest, and freshwater habitats. The park also features a playground, horseshoe pits, and a pavilion with a fire pit for group gatherings. During the summer, visitors can enjoy family fun nights and bayside concerts. Holts Landing's diverse landscapes include bay shore beach, grassy fields, and hardwood forests, providing habitats for various wildlife. The Assawoman Canal, which connects Indian River Bay to Little Assawoman Bay, runs through the park and offers a peaceful spot for kayaking.
