Car
From any point in Blackbird State Forest, head south on Blackbird Landing Road (DE-9) towards the town of New Castle. Continue on DE-9 until you reach the intersection with Route 1 South. Merge onto Route 1 South and follow the signs for New Castle. Take Exit 152B for I-295 North toward Wilmington. Continue on I-295 North for about 4 miles, then take Exit 1 toward New Castle. Merge onto US-13 North and continue for approximately 2 miles. Take a left onto The Strand and follow it until you reach Read House & Gardens at 42 The Strand, New Castle, DE 19720. Parking is available nearby, and be aware that there may be parking fees depending on the time of your visit.

Begin your journey at the nearest bus stop within Blackbird State Forest. Take the DART First State bus service (Route 33) towards Wilmington. You will need to transfer at the Wilmington Transit Center to Route 1, which goes to New Castle. After reaching New Castle, disembark at the stop closest to The Strand. From there, it's a short walk (about 10 minutes) to Read House & Gardens located at 42 The Strand. Be sure to check the DART schedule for the latest times, as service can be limited, especially on weekends.
