Discover more about Canby Park

Canby Park, a 43.5-acre park in Wilmington, Delaware, has been a community hub since its establishment in 1916. Originally known as Southwest Park, it was renamed around 1930 to honor William M. Canby and his son, Henry M. Canby, both influential members of the New Castle County Park Commission. William M. Canby, a prominent botanist and philanthropist, is credited with creating Wilmington's city parks. The park is divided into two sections, Canby Park East and Canby Park West, by railroad tracks. Both sections feature paved walkways and small woodland areas. Visitors can enjoy a variety of amenities, including baseball and softball fields, football fields, basketball courts, tennis courts, and playgrounds. Canby Park also offers off-street parking, park benches, picnic areas, and walking/hiking trails. Canby Park is not just a place for recreation; it's also a venue for community gatherings and seasonal festivals. Its well-maintained facilities and welcoming atmosphere make it a popular destination for families and individuals looking to unwind and connect with nature. While the swimming pool complex in Canby Park East is temporarily closed, the park continues to offer a wide range of activities for everyone to enjoy.
