    Walking

    The Old York Historical Society is located in the heart of York Village, making it easily accessible on foot from many points in the area. From the York Village Main Street, walk southwest on York Street/Route 1A. Turn right onto Lindsay Road. The Old York Historical Society will be on your left. There are no costs associated with walking.

    Driving

    If driving from I-95, take Exit 7. From the spur road, bear right onto Route 1 South. At the traffic light, turn left onto Route 1A (York Street). Follow Route 1A for about half a mile into the village center. The Old York Historical Society will be on the corner of Lindsay Road. Parking is available in the area, but it may be limited, especially during peak season. Metered parking is available along Route 1A/York Street. Parking rates typically range from $1-$2 per hour.

    The Old York Historical Society, situated in the heart of York Village, is southern Maine's largest museum of historic properties. It serves thousands annually through tours, educational programs, exhibitions, and special events. York, originally known as Gorgeana, holds the distinction of being one of New England's earliest colonial settlements, as well as the first chartered city in the nation in 1641 and the first incorporated city in 1642. The society maintains several buildings and historic properties, including the Old Gaol, the York Corner Schoolhouse, and the Remick Gallery. The Old Gaol Museum, a National Historic Landmark, allows visitors to explore the oldest intact prison in the country. The Remick Gallery showcases early Maine decorative arts and artifacts. The York Corner Schoolhouse provides a glimpse into 19th-century education. The Emerson-Wilcox House, dating back to 1735, shares the stories of its past residents. Visitors can immerse themselves in the exhibits that focus on the lives of southern Maine's men, women, and children from the 1600s to the present day. The Old York Museum Center connects visitors to the Remick Gallery and Jefferds Tavern. The Jefferds Tavern, originally built in 1754 as a rest stop, has been used for film sets.
