Discover more about Holts Landing State Park

Holts Landing State Park, a 205-acre gem on the Indian River Bay, provides a diverse range of natural landscapes and recreational activities. Originally inhabited by Native Americans who thrived on the bay's seafood and surrounding wildlife, the land later became a family farm owned by the Holts. In 1957, the Holt family sold the land to the state, and in 1965, it officially opened as a state park. Today, visitors can enjoy a variety of activities, including crabbing from the park's dedicated pier, one of the few on Delaware's east coast built specifically for this purpose. Fishing is also popular, with opportunities to catch sea trout, flounder, and bluefish. The park features a boat ramp that provides access to the Indian River Bay. Nature enthusiasts can explore the Seahawk Trail, an ADA-accessible 1.3-mile loop that meanders through salt marsh, maritime forest, and freshwater habitats. The Grove, a cozy events area with mature trees, hosts summer concerts and provides a space for picnics and family gatherings. The Assawoman Canal, dug by hand in the 1890s, connects Indian River Bay to Little Assawoman Bay and offers a peaceful kayaking route. Holts Landing State Park is a place where visitors can connect with nature, enjoy outdoor recreation, and appreciate the history of Delaware's inland bays. Whether crabbing on the pier, hiking the trails, or simply relaxing by the bay, the park offers something for everyone.
