Fox Point State Park: Where River Meets Sky

Fox Point State Park is a testament to environmental restoration and community vision. Situated on 93 acres along the Delaware River, this park offers visitors a unique experience where nature and industry converge. The park's location provides a front-row seat to the bustling shipping channel, where cargo ships, freight trains, and semi-trucks transport goods, while diverse wildlife thrives along the river. Originally, the Pennsylvania Railroad began filling the Delaware River bank in the mid-1900s to create additional industrial land. However, in 1958, environmentalist S. Marston Fox initiated a battle to halt the filling process and dedicate the shoreline to the people of Delaware. His vision was realized in 1995 when the park opened, named in his honor. Today, Fox Point State Park features paved trails suitable for walking, biking, and enjoying views of the river. Visitors can spot various watercraft, from barges to tankers, with interpretive signs providing information about them. The park also offers picnic areas, a playground, a volleyball court, and horseshoe pits, making it a family-friendly destination. The park is wheelchair accessible and pet-friendly. Fox Point State Park is also part of the Delaware Greenways and serves as the northern terminus of the Coastal Heritage Greenway. It's a prime location for birdwatching, especially during migration seasons, and offers views of the Commodore Barry Bridge to the north and the Delaware Memorial Bridge to the south.
