Getting There

• Car

  If you're driving, start by getting onto DE-1 S from anywhere in The Coastal Plain. Continue on DE-1 S for about 10 miles. Take the exit for Cape Henlopen State Park, and follow the signs to the park entrance. Once you enter the park, continue straight for about 2 miles until you reach the parking area for Fort Miles Historical Area, located at 15099 Cape Henlopen State Park, Lewes, DE 19958. There is a parking fee of $5 for Delaware residents and $10 for non-residents.

• Public Transportation

  For those using public transportation, you can take the DART First State buses that operate in the area. The closest bus stop is at the entrance of Cape Henlopen State Park. You can check the DART website for the latest schedules. Once you arrive at the park entrance, you will need to walk or bike approximately 2 miles to reach Fort Miles Historical Area. Note that there are bike rentals available at the park if you prefer to cycle.

• Bicycle

  If you're already in Cape Henlopen State Park, you can rent a bicycle from the park's rental station. From the rental location, follow the bike paths leading to Fort Miles Historical Area. The ride is about 2 miles and is relatively flat, making it a pleasant journey through the park's scenic views.

• Walking

  If you're staying within Cape Henlopen State Park, you can walk to Fort Miles Historical Area. The trail from the park entrance to the fort is about 2 miles long. Follow the park's walking paths, and enjoy the natural surroundings as you make your way to this historical site.
