Rutschebanen, Tivoli Gardens
Historic pleasure garden meets modern amusement park, where roller coasters, concerts and glowing lanterns create Copenhagen’s most magical nights.
Tivoli Gardens is Copenhagen’s storybook amusement park: a 19th‑century pleasure garden where roller coasters weave past rose beds, lanterns glow above winding paths, and live music drifts from open‑air stages. Open in distinct seasons—spring, summer, Halloween and Christmas—it blends historic rides, lush planting, performances, and more than 30 places to eat, all tucked beside the Central Station in the heart of the city.
Opening times, essentials, and a few local tips gathered into one calmer, easier-to-scan planning section.
Train and short walk
From anywhere in the Copenhagen region, take an S‑train or regional train to København H (Copenhagen Central Station); most lines pass through here with frequent services and a typical fare of about 24–40 DKK one way within the city zones, more from outlying towns. From the station concourse it is a level, signposted walk of around 5–10 minutes to Tivoli’s main entrance, suitable for wheelchairs and strollers.
City bus connection
Several city bus routes stop at or near Tivoli and Copenhagen Central Station, with journey times of roughly 10–25 minutes from inner districts such as Nørrebro, Østerbro or Amager, depending on traffic. Standard bus tickets cost around 24–40 DKK within central zones and can be used interchangeably on buses, metro and S‑trains. Buses run frequently during park opening seasons, but late‑night services may be less frequent after concerts and fireworks.
Metro plus walk
Take the M3 Cityringen metro to København H station, which is served by fully accessible trains and elevators. From the metro platforms, allow about 5–10 minutes to reach street level and walk to Tivoli along broad pavements. Metro trains usually run every few minutes during the day and evening, with a typical central fare in the 24–40 DKK range; service continues late, making this a convenient option after evening events.
Bicycle access
Copenhagen’s extensive cycle lanes make it straightforward to reach Tivoli by bike from most central neighbourhoods in 10–20 minutes. Use the segregated bike lanes leading toward the Central Station area and plan to dismount at the streets surrounding the park, where you will find public bicycle stands. There is no additional cost beyond any bike rental, but be aware that stands can fill quickly on busy summer evenings and during major concerts.
