Deep Forest Art Land, situated near Kibæk in central Jutland, Denmark, offers a unique outdoor experience where contemporary art and nature converge. Established in 2010 by artists René Schmidt and Søren Taaning, this open-air exhibition spans the privately-owned Døvling Meldgaard Forest, a landscape shaped by glacial activity during the Ice Age. The park features a 3.5-kilometer trail that meanders through diverse terrains, including deciduous and coniferous woodlands, river courses, scrubland, raised bogs, heaths, and meadows. Along this path, visitors encounter over 80 sculptures and installations created by a diverse group of Danish and international artists. These artworks are thoughtfully integrated into the natural surroundings, encouraging visitors to engage with art in a non-traditional setting. The installations vary widely in medium, style, and theme, ranging from large-scale sculptures made from recycled materials to intricate installations incorporating natural elements. Some pieces are interactive, inviting visitors to touch, climb, or even enter the art, while others are contemplative, encouraging reflection on the relationship between art and nature. The ever-changing light, sounds, and smells of the forest create a dynamic backdrop for the installations, transforming the way they are perceived. Seasonal changes add another layer of meaning to the artworks, highlighting the interconnectedness of art and nature. Deep Forest Art Land also serves as a hub for creative exploration and environmental education, hosting a variety of events, workshops, and guided tours throughout the year. Visitors are encouraged to take their time exploring the trail, allowing at least two hours to fully appreciate the experience. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended, as the terrain can be uneven and muddy, especially after rain. While there is no mandatory admission fee, a voluntary donation of 20 DKK per person is suggested to support the park's maintenance and development. Donations can be made in cash or via MobilePay. Picnic areas are available throughout the forest, allowing visitors to enjoy a meal amidst the art and nature. Dogs are welcome but must be kept on a leash.
