Trafalgar Falls: Dominica's Twin Cascade Spectacle

Trafalgar Falls, one of Dominica's most iconic natural attractions, presents a captivating spectacle of twin waterfalls set amidst a lush rainforest. Located just a 20-minute drive from the capital city of Roseau, the falls are easily accessible, making them a popular destination for both tourists and locals.The falls are locally known as the 'Father' (the taller one) and the 'Mother'. The Father Fall, fed by the Freshwater Lake via Titou Gorge, dramatically drops 125 feet (38 meters), while the Mother Fall gracefully cascades 75 feet (23 meters) from the Breakfast River. A well-maintained 10-15 minute walk from the visitor center leads to a viewing platform that offers a panoramic vista of both falls.For the more adventurous, a trek beyond the viewing platform leads to the base of the falls, where refreshing pools invite visitors to take a dip. Some scramble over boulders to find hidden hot springs near the Father Fall. However, caution is advised as the rocks can be slippery, and it's easy to lose your way without a guide.While the hot springs along the track to the falls were covered during Hurricane Maria in 2017 and are no longer accessible, the allure of the twin falls remains undiminished.
