The name, translating to 'little throat' in Creole, aptly describes the narrow passageway formed by cooled lava. This natural gorge offers a unique and invigorating experience: swimming through its emerald waters to discover a hidden waterfall.The gorge was formed by molten lava flowing down from the mountain top, cooling, and eventually cracking apart. Freshwater cascaded over the rocks, creating the stunning natural wonder that exists today. As you swim through the gorge, you'll encounter smaller chambers and mini-waterfalls, with sunlight piercing through the opening above, creating a magical ambiance. The swim can be challenging due to the current, but the mesmerizing beauty of the waterfall makes it a rewarding endeavor.Movie buffs might recognize Titou Gorge as a filming location for Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest. The accessibility of the gorge today is partly thanks to Disney's interest in using the location, which led to improvements in the access road.

Getting There
Taxi/Ride-Share
From Roseau, a taxi is the most convenient way to reach Titou Gorge. Negotiate a round-trip fare with the driver, including waiting time, as return transport can be scarce at the gorge. The journey takes approximately 25 minutes. Expect to pay between $10-$30 USD per person, depending on the size of your group and haggling skills.
Public Transport
From Roseau, take a local minibus to Laudat. The bus station is located on River Bank. The ride costs approximately EC$4.50 (about $1.67 USD) each way. From Laudat, it's about a 17-minute walk to Titou Gorge. Be aware that buses don't operate on a fixed schedule, so inquire about departure times and allow for potential delays. For the return trip, consider walking to the main road to increase your chances of flagging down a bus back to Roseau.
Driving
If driving from Roseau, take the Valley Road towards Laudat. The drive is approximately 25 minutes. A vehicle permit fee of $12 USD is required. Parking is available near the entrance to the gorge.
