Discover more about Cold Soufrière

Located in the northern part of Dominica, near the village of Savanne Paille, Cold Soufrière presents a unique and somewhat unsettling geological experience. Unlike the island's more famous hot springs and boiling lake, this area features cold, bubbling sulfur springs, a testament to the complex geothermal activity that shapes Dominica. The air is thick with the pungent smell of sulfur, a constant reminder of the volcanic forces at play beneath the surface. The ground is marked by unusual rock formations, sculpted by the acidic waters that seep from the earth. Small pools of cloudy, blue-tinged water bubble gently, their temperature a stark contrast to what one might expect from a volcanic area. The mineral content creates colorful deposits on the surrounding rocks, adding to the surreal atmosphere. The site is located within an old volcanic crater, flanked by Harrogate Estate, Francois Estate, and Degazon Estate, adding to its historical and agricultural significance. The towering peaks of Morne aux Diables and Bellevue Mountain provide a dramatic backdrop. A short, scenic walk through open farmlands leads to Cold Soufrière, offering panoramic views of Dominica's northern landscape and glimpses of neighboring islands on clear days.
