Discover more about Titou Gorge

Titou Gorge, meaning 'little throat' in Creole, is an enchanting swimming hole carved by volcanic activity in Dominica. Located near the mountain-top community of Laudat and within the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Morne Trois Pitons National Park, the gorge offers a unique and refreshing experience. The gorge was formed as molten lava cooled and split, creating a narrow passageway with towering rock walls. Sunlight filters through the forest canopy, creating a magical ambiance as you swim through the emerald waters. The swim to the hidden waterfall at the end of the gorge takes only about five to ten minutes, but it can be challenging due to the current. Along the way, you'll encounter smaller chambers and mini-waterfalls, with opportunities for the adventurous to jump from rock crevices. Movie buffs may recognize Titou Gorge as a filming location for Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, where Captain Jack Sparrow tumbles down the gorge in a vine cage. The increased accessibility to the gorge is thanks to Disney's need to transport equipment for filming. After your swim, a small hot spring just outside the entrance offers a warm respite from the cool waters of the gorge.
