Turn left onto Avenida Juan Montalvo and continue walking for about 500 meters. You will come to a bus terminal where you can find local taxis or shared taxis (usually called 'taxi colectivo'). Take a shared taxi to the area known as 'La Nambija,' which is roughly 5 km from Macas. The fare should be around $1.50. Once you reach La Nambija, ask the driver to drop you off near the entrance of the hiking trail that leads to Rio Copueno. From there, follow the marked trail for about 2 km to reach the river.
