Walking
From the central plaza in Macas (Plaza 10 de Noviembre), head east on Avenida 15 de Noviembre for approximately 1 km until you reach the intersection with Avenida Juan Montalvo. Turn left onto Avenida Juan Montalvo and continue walking for about 500 meters. You will come to a bus terminal where you can find local taxis or shared taxis (usually called 'taxi colectivo'). Take a shared taxi to the area known as 'La Nambija,' which is roughly 5 km from Macas. The fare should be around $1.50. Once you reach La Nambija, ask the driver to drop you off near the entrance of the hiking trail that leads to Rio Copueno. From there, follow the marked trail for about 2 km to reach the river.
Public Transport
Start at the Plaza 10 de Noviembre in Macas. Look for a bus that is heading towards 'Santiago' or 'La Nambija.' Buses leave frequently and the fare is about $0.50. Make sure to tell the bus driver your destination so they can let you off at the best drop-off point. Once you arrive at La Nambija, you will need to walk approximately 2 km to reach Rio Copueno. The path is relatively easy to follow, but it is advisable to ask locals for directions if you feel unsure.
