Getting There

  • Bus

    From Otavalo, head to the main bus terminal located on Calle 31 de Octubre. Look for buses heading to Cotacachi or Ibarra. The bus fare is usually very affordable. The journey will take approximately 30-40 minutes. Once you arrive in Cotacachi, ask the driver to drop you off at the Cotacachi-Cajamarca National Park entrance. From there, you will need to take a short taxi ride (around 10 minutes) to reach the Cuicocha Lake entrance.

  • Shared Taxi

    For a more direct route, you can take a shared taxi from Otavalo. Go to the main square (Plaza de los Ponchos) and find a taxi that is heading to Cuicocha or Cotacachi. This option will be slightly more expensive than the bus but will save time. The shared taxi can hold up to 4 passengers and will take you directly to Cuicocha Lake, approximately a 30-minute ride.

  • Hiking
