Désert Blanc: Egypt's Surreal Masterpiece

The White Desert National Park, also known as Désert Blanc, is located in the north of Egypt. Established as a protected area in 2002, it stretches over 300 square kilometers west of the Farafra Oasis. The desert is renowned for its white sands and rock formations, and it is part of the Great Sand Sea.The White Desert's iconic pillars, some standing roughly 3-4.5 meters tall, have been formed by centuries of erosion from sandstorms. Some formations resemble foods, like 'Ice-cream cone' and 'Mushroom,' while others have names like 'Inselberg' and 'The Monolith'. The most iconic formation is the 'Chicken and the tree,' also known as 'Chicken and mushroom'.Approximately 70,000 tourists visit the White Desert every year. Visitors often hire local Bedouins as tour guides and camp in the desert to enjoy the spectacle of the sun setting and the moon rising over the sands. The desert is particularly breathtaking at sunset when the light casts an ethereal glow over the white formations. Camping overnight allows for stargazing under clear desert skies. Nearby attractions include the Black Desert and the Farafra Oasis.
