Walking
From St. Catherine's Monastery, the most common approach to Moses' Cave is on foot. Follow the well-trodden path leading up Mount Sinai. The initial section is relatively gradual, but soon becomes steeper. There are two main routes: the Steps of Repentance (approximately 3,750 steps) and the Camel Trail, which is less steep but longer. Both routes converge for the final 750 steps to the summit. Along the way, Bedouin-run stalls offer water, snacks, and tea. Consider hiring a Bedouin guide at the monastery for assistance and insights. Note that camel rides are available for part of the ascent via the Camel Trail, but the final section must be completed on foot.
Camel Ride
For those who prefer not to walk the entire distance, camel rides are available for hire from the base of Mount Sinai up to a certain point along the Camel Trail. Negotiate the price beforehand. Expect to pay around 100-200 Egyptian pounds (approximately $3-6 USD) for a one-way trip. Keep in mind that even with a camel ride, the final ascent to Moses' Cave requires climbing the remaining steps on foot.
