Car
If you're driving from Cairo, take the Cairo-Alexandria Desert Road (Road 6) heading west. After about 30 km, take the exit toward the Giza Plateau. Continue on the road until you reach the signs for Saqqara. The necropolis is approximately 30 km from Giza. Use a GPS with the coordinates 29.8684624, 31.2168246 for accurate navigation. There is parking available near the entrance.
Public Transportation (Bus)
From Cairo, take a microbus or bus from the main bus terminal (Tahrir Square or Sayeda Zeinab) heading towards Giza. Ask the driver to drop you at the Giza bus station. From there, catch a microbus to Saqqara. The fare for the bus is around 10-20 EGP. The microbus ride should cost around 5-10 EGP and takes about 30 minutes. Inform the driver of your destination as they may not announce stops.
Taxi or Ride-Hailing Service
Using a taxi or a ride-hailing service (like Uber) is a convenient option. From Cairo, you can book a ride directly to Saqqara Necropolis. The ride will take about 45 minutes to 1 hour, depending on traffic. Expect to pay around 200-300 EGP for the trip. Make sure to confirm the cost beforehand if you're using a taxi.
Tour Group
Joining a guided tour is another great option. Many travel companies in Cairo offer day tours to Saqqara that include transportation. The cost typically ranges from 600 to 1500 EGP per person, depending on the inclusions like meals or entrance fees. This option often includes a knowledgeable guide who can provide historical context as you explore the site.
