Zagazig, a significant city in the eastern Nile Delta, serves as the capital of the Al-Sharqia Governorate. Established in the 19th century, the city's origins trace back to a village named Nazlat az-Zaqāzīq. The name possibly originates from the Zaqzuq family or a Coptic word meaning 'small creature'.Mohamed Ali Pasha founded Zagazig to enhance irrigation in the Nile Delta, leading to its growth as a vital agricultural hub.
