Car
If you are traveling by car, start your journey from Asmara, the capital of Eritrea. Head south on the S40 road towards Nefasit. The drive will take approximately 30 minutes. Once you reach Nefasit, look for signs directing you to Debre Bizen Monastery. It's located a few kilometers from the main road. Make sure to have a GPS or map application handy, as the roads may not be well marked.
Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, take a minibus (known locally as 'bajaaj') from Asmara to Nefasit. These minibuses depart regularly from the central bus station in Asmara. The ride will take about 30-45 minutes. Once you arrive in Nefasit, you can either walk or hire a local taxi to get to Debre Bizen. The taxi ride should not cost more than 50-100 ERN (Eritrean Nakfa).
Walking
If you wish to walk from Nefasit to Debre Bizen, the monastery is about 3-4 kilometers from the town center. Follow the main road heading east, and keep an eye out for the signs leading to the monastery. The walk will take approximately 45 minutes to an hour, and it's advisable to wear comfortable shoes and carry water.
