Car
If you are traveling by car, start your journey from any point in Jõgevamaa and head towards the town of Viljandi. Use the Tartu-Viljandi road (Route 2) which is well-marked. Once you reach Viljandi, follow the signs to the city center. You can park at the Viljandi City Park, which is a short walk from the castle ruins. The address for the castle is Viljandi, 71011 Viljandi County. Parking may incur a small fee, so be sure to have some change or a payment app ready.
Public Transportation
For public transportation, you can take a bus from various locations in Jõgevamaa to Viljandi. Check the local bus schedules for routes that go to Viljandi. Upon arriving at the Viljandi bus station, you can either walk to the castle ruins or take a local taxi. The walk to the castle takes about 15-20 minutes and is straightforward; just head northwest towards the city center, following the signs to the Viljandi Castle Ruins. A taxi ride from the bus station will cost approximately 5-10 euros.
Walking
If you are already in the vicinity of Viljandi, you can simply walk to the castle ruins. From the city center, head towards the main street (Tallinna street), and follow it until you see the signs for Viljandi Castle. The ruins are located in a park area, making it easily accessible on foot. The walk should take no more than 10-15 minutes from central Viljandi.
