Car
If you are traveling by car, you can start your journey from Rakvere, which is approximately 30 kilometers away from Viitna. Head southeast on Tallinna mnt/A1 towards Viitna. After around 15 kilometers, turn left onto Viitna road (Viitna tee) and continue for about 10 kilometers. Follow the signs for Viitna nature trail, and you will find the parking area near the trailhead. Note that parking is free.
Public Transportation
To reach Viitna nature trail by public transportation, you can take a bus from Rakvere to Viitna. The buses run several times a day, and the journey takes about 40 minutes. Check the local bus schedule for exact times. After arriving at Viitna, walk towards the nature trail, which is about 1 kilometer from the bus stop. Follow the road signs directing you to the nature trail. Make sure to have some change for the bus fare, which typically costs around €2-€3.
Bicycle
For those who prefer cycling, renting a bike in Rakvere can be a great option. Once you have a bike, follow the same route as described for car travel, taking the A1 southeast towards Viitna. Biking will allow you to enjoy the scenic countryside, and the route is relatively flat and safe for cyclists. The distance from Rakvere to Viitna is about 30 kilometers, so plan your trip accordingly.
Walking
If you are already in Viitna village, you can walk to the nature trail. It is about a 1-kilometer walk from the village center to the trailhead. Take the Viitna road (Viitna tee) and look for signs indicating the trail. The walk offers a pleasant opportunity to enjoy the local landscape.
