Car
If you are driving from Mulgimaa, head south on the Tartu-Viljandi road (E263). Follow the signs for Viljandi. After approximately 40 kilometers, you will enter Viljandi. Continue straight until you reach the center of the town. Look for signs directing you to Viljandi Castle Ruins, which are located near the lake in the city center. Parking is available nearby, but be mindful of any parking fees that may apply.
Public Transportation
To reach Viljandi Castle Ruins via public transport, take a bus from the nearest bus station in Mulgimaa to Viljandi. Check the local bus schedule for departure times; the journey typically takes about 45 minutes to an hour. Once you arrive at the Viljandi bus station, exit the station and walk towards the city center. The castle ruins are approximately a 15-minute walk from the bus station. Follow the signs towards the lake, and you will find the ruins near the waterfront.

If you are already in Viljandi, and want to reach the castle ruins on foot, start from the town center and head towards the Viljandi Lake. The castle ruins are located on a hill overlooking the lake.
