Getting There

  • Walking

    Start at the center of Big Bend, near the local market. Head south on the main road (MR3) towards the town of Siteki. After approximately 1.5 km, you will reach a junction. Continue straight on the MR3, passing by several local shops and houses. After another 3 km, you will see a sign for Mlawula Nature Reserve on your left. Turn left and follow the dirt road for about 2 km until you reach the entrance of the reserve.

  • Bicycle

    From Big Bend, rent a bicycle from one of the local shops. Start on the main road (MR3) heading south. After about 1.5 km, you will encounter a junction; keep straight on MR3. Continue for another 3 km until you see the Mlawula Nature Reserve sign on your left. Turn left onto the dirt road and cycle for 2 km to the reserve entrance. Make sure to wear a helmet and stay hydrated during your ride.

  • Taxi

    Find a local taxi stand in Big Bend. Inform the driver that you would like to go to Mlawula Nature Reserve. The driver will take you on the MR3 road heading south. After about 5 km, they will turn left at the Mlawula Nature Reserve sign. The total distance is approximately 7 km, and the taxi ride should take around 15-20 minutes, depending on traffic.
